The Albany Park Community Center, Inc. (APCC), is a nonprofit, community-based organization in Chicago's multi-ethnic Albany Park community. We run education, youth, family, counseling, and workforce services for people who live and work here, and we remain the largest social service agency focused on this neighborhood. Our main program site is at 5101 North Kimball Avenue, with additional administrative support for families and partners.
APCC was incorporated on September 24, 1975 and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors under a charter from the State of Illinois and the board's bylaws. In 1976 the board applied to United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and entered as a two-year provisional member in 1977. After a strong first year, United Way waived the second provisional year and admitted APCC as a full member in 1978.
Albany Park has changed through decades of migration and reinvestment. Predominantly upper-working-class Jewish residents shaped much of the area until the early 1960s. Since then, many lower-income and working-class households have made Albany Park home, with roots in Latin America and across Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe. More than 40 languages appear in local public schools, and Albany Park is often cited as one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States.
Today APCC keeps schedules and intake steps current online so families can find English and citizenship classes, youth programs, counseling, and employment supports without guessing where to start. Visit OUR PROGRAMS for service lines and CONTACT US for hours and enrollment.
